Vision for R.E.

 At Heygarth, we teach the RE curriculum in such a way as to promote the depth of knowledge of Hinduism in Key Stage One. This learning journey is over two years as these leaners are younger children therefore requiring consolidation over a longer period of time. In Key Stage One the curriculum covers Christianity and Hinduism alongside each other, to provide the learners a familiar base to start their RE learning on. The majority of children in our school are White/British and from a Christian background. By repeating the two religions over a two year period we are giving the children the opportunity to compare, contrast and reflect on how Hinduism and Christianity are similar and different, widening their understanding of these faiths.

In Key Stage 2, Christianity is repeated progressively throughout the curriculum from year 3-6 to build upon the children’s sticky knowledge. They can therefore link other religions to something that they already know. The clear progression of the curriculum suits the needs of our children as the World Faith is attached to Christianity, giving the leaners the ability to compare religions which have similar ideologies and principles. We are constantly revisiting previous learning in each year group whilst widening their understanding of world religions and denominations of Christianity.
